Hartman, Brian

Brian HartmanAssistant Professor and Actuarial Program Director, Statistics Department, Brigham Young University

  • What excites you most about your research?

I love developing new statistical methodology to answer current and important problems. Working with incredible students and colleagues, we are able to improve both the accuracy and speed of our predictions. We work to quantify the effects of both the weather and the infrastructure on the power grid.

  • What’s the most valuable aspect of your research for people and communities?

More accurate and timely predictions enable the utilities to make better decisions and minimize the disruption caused by weather-related damage to the power grid.

Research focus: Statistics, Bayesian modeling, and risk management.
