Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is a great honor and privilege for me to serve as the Interim Director of the Eversource Energy Center!
The Center is a premier U.S. partnership between Eversource Energy and UConn. Through this partnership, the Center creates a dynamic environment in which faculty, post-docs, graduate and undergraduate students work together with industry professionals to tackle ever evolving challenges.
Former Director Prof. Emmanouil Anagnostou founded the Eversource Energy Center in 2015 following the devastating impacts of three major storms – Irene, the Halloween nor’easter, and Sandy – that struck New England between 2011 and 2012. The Center originated with the purpose of enhancing electric utility preparedness, hardening infrastructure, and embracing the grid of the future: intelligent, interactive, automated, reliable, and safe. This mission is now more critical than ever, as we confront the growing severity of weather events, the increasing electrification and automation of society, and rising cyber and physical security threats – all within an evolving policy landscape.
As leading experts in their respective disciplines – including power system, computer engineering, civil and environmental engineering, atmospheric science, hydrology, natural resources and forest management, remote sensing, human behavior, social and political sciences, and economics – our faculty responsibilities go beyond conducting high-level research. Our faculty are also committed to providing informed guidance and support to electric utilities, states and federal agencies, municipalities, and communities, helping them make sound, science-based decisions in their daily operations and long-term planning.
On behalf of our Center team, we greatly appreciate your interest in the Eversource Energy Center and invite you to explore our website and our most recent Annual Report.
Sincerely,
