Eversource Energy Center Announces Fall Seminar Series Lineup

The Eversource Energy Center has announced the debut of its Speaker Seminar Series launching in Fall 2016 with three world-renowned subject matter experts. With a wealth of knowledge and research experience, our speakers look forward to providing an engaging discussion on the topics of electric grid modernization, atmospheric sciences, weather systems assessment, and urban landscape ecology. Our Center’s Fall 2016 Seminar Series line-up features:

Doug Dorr kicks off the seminar series with a discourse on renewable generation and the overhead power network. Doug has been involved with electric power system-related technology research for over 22 years (including the past 18 years with the EPRI family of companies). He currently leads the EPRI Distribution Modernization (data analytics) Demonstration Initiative for EPRI. Doug’s primary background is in the Power Distribution and Power Quality, and Standards development areas. Doug is a senior member of the IEEE and is a co-author of three electric power industry text books and numerous technical publications. The UConn Department of Environmental Engineering and the Center for Clean Energy Engineering (C2E2) is co-sponsoring this seminar.

sue-ellen-hauptDr. Sue Ellen Haupt is an expert in renewable energy, boundary layer meteorology, large scale atmospheric dynamics, dynamical systems, numerical methods, artificial intelligence methods, and computational fluid dynamics. Dr. Haupt specialty is in applying novel numerical techniques to problems in the environmental sciences in both basic and applied research.  Dr. Haupt enjoys teaching and mentoring graduate students, as well as developing and directing research programs and projects. The UConn Department of Environmental Engineering is co-sponsoring this seminar.

tenley-conwayDr. Tenley Conway’s seminar, “Seeing the Residents though the Trees: Residents’ Attitudes and Experiences with the Urban Forest,” will illustrate critical factors in tree-planting decisions after storms. Dr. Conway’s research looks to integrate insights from environmental geography and urban ecology to improve our understanding of the relationship between human activity and the physical environment within the urban landscape.  Dr. Conway’s research is driven by questions surrounding the ecology of human-dominated landscapes, equitable access to natural amenities, and the efficacy of current management approaches. Currently, projects focus on the role of different stakeholders in shaping the urban forest and urban agriculture. The UConn Department of Natural Resources and the Environment is co-sponsoring this seminar.

everette-josephEverette Joseph, an internationally recognized leader in the field of atmospheric sciences, is the director of the University at Albany’s Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC) and SUNY Empire Innovations Professor in Atmospheric Sciences. Joseph played a significant role in the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA’s) Aerosol and Ocean Science Expeditions. Everette has conducted extensive research observing the role of aerosols and certain gases on climate and weather from field observations in the Mid-Atlantic to marine expeditions across the Atlantic Ocean. The department of Environmental Engineering is co-sponsoring this seminar.
