Eversource Energy Center hosts second annual workshop with leading regulatory and industry partners
Our Eversource Energy Center, a unique university-energy company partnership, marked a significant milestone with its second annual signature workshop held November 17, 2017, at the University of Connecticut. Over 100 guests participated in the event, with keynote talks from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and Connecticut’s Chief Cybersecurity Risk Officer, Art House. A highlight during the program included the announcement that EPRI plans to sponsor a Collaborative Center at UConn to share our Center’s work on storm outage modeling with utilities around the country. This leverages our expertise in solving critical utility resilience needs in the face of extreme weather and security events. Our Center’s first-ever External Advisory Board meeting, held immediately following the workshop, leveraged the expertise of our 10-member Advisory Board representing the EPRI, PURA, DEEP, Electric Edison Institute, the American Gas Association, ISO New England, Connecticut’s Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, AVANGRID/United Illuminating, New England Clean Energy Council, and Connecticut’s Chief Cybersecurity Risk Officer. The workshop showcased our Center’s research in 15 areas including storm outage forecasting, tree and forest management, electric grid hardening, integrating renewable technologies and using airborne laser systems to create a map of power grid and tree line locations.
