Grid Reliability

Strengthening the reliability of the electric grid as electricity demand, technology, and customer behavior continue to change. Research is advancing tools and strategies that help utilities better understand, monitor, and manage grid conditions by:

  • Improving forecasts of electricity demand and system conditions.
  • Developing advanced models to monitor and manage the distribution grid.
  • Assessing the impacts of electric vehicles and distributed energy resources on grid reliability.
  • Identifying system vulnerabilities, congestion, and potential instability.
  • Advancing tools for grid monitoring, control, and operational decision-making.

Our research is helping utilities identify potential problems earlier and make more informed decisions. Improved forecasting, modeling, and monitoring are supporting a more flexible grid that can adapt to changing demand while maintaining reliable and stable operations.
