Renewable Energy

Advancing the integration of renewable energy while maintaining a reliable, resilient, and affordable electric grid. Research is developing the technologies and strategies needed to manage a more distributed and dynamic energy system by:

  • Improving the integration of solar, wind, battery storage, and other distributed energy resources.
  • Developing smarter controls for renewable energy and energy storage systems.
  • Improving forecasts of renewable energy generation.
  • Deploying advanced sensors and analytics to increase visibility into grid conditions.
  • Strengthening grid protection as renewable energy adoption increases.

Our research is helping utilities integrate more clean energy without compromising grid performance. Improved forecasting, sensing, controls, and protection are supporting a more flexible grid capable of managing growing levels of renewable energy.
