The Center’s research in storm outage modeling and the use of satellite imagery to help Eversource Energy proactively prepare for and respond to all types of weather has drawn international attention. It was recently featured at the American Geophysical Union’s Fall Meeting (December 2015, San Francisco) and the American Meteorological Society’s Annual Meeting (January 2016, New Orleans). Nearly 30,000 scientists, researchers and world-renowned experts in natural hazards saw our Center’s projects and results for Connecticut utility customers. Highlights included the areas of severe weather forecasting and power outage prediction, which Eversource uses to pre-stage crews and equipment and accelerate restorations. See the Center’s debut announced on the UConn and Eversource web sites for more information.
