(Easton Courier) The United Illuminating Company (UI) is adopting new technology developed by engineers at The University of Connecticut that can help predict storm damage in much greater detail than was previously possible. The Damage Prediction Modeling tool harnesses computers and highly detailed models of UI’s electric system in order to make earlier and more accurate projections of the damage a major storm might inflict. That information can help UI engage and deploy resources ahead of a storm, potentially improving restoration efforts and reducing the duration of customer outages.
